Unmanned aircraft crash near MCAS Cherry Point

MCAS CHERRY POINT, NC (WNCT) – An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) crashed Wednesday in the Neuse River.

The Shadow is an UAV belonging to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Officials say it went down during a training operation.

It weights less than 400 pounds and is about 11 feet in length. There are no weapons on the UAV.

Officials report no injuries or property damage.

Cherry Point personnel looked for the craft Wednesday evening.

The incident is still under investigation.
