NAB show examines creative opportunities of unmanned aircraft.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The legal, technical and creative aspects of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) use for broadcast applications will be explored at NAB Show in Las Vegas during the panel discussion “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Myths & Realities.” As part of the Broadcast Management Conference, the session is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

With content creators embracing UAVs as a cost-effective resource for video production and the Federal Aviation Administration’s announcement that its rules for drone permits will be streamlined, there is high interest surrounding the technology from a wide range of commercial industries. UAV operators and investors, a legal expert, and a federal official working on UAV regulations will discuss the opportunities and challenges offered by UAVs during the session, which will be moderated by The Washington Post technology reporter Brian Fung.

Matthew Bieschke is the president of UAS America Fund, LLC, which provides $2 billion in financing to benefit the emerging commercial UAS sector of the U.S. aerospace industry. He is a also a managing partner with NEXA Capital Partners LLC, an investment banking and financial advisory firm working predominantly in the aerospace sector.

XFLY Systems President and CEO TJ Diaz has 20 years of experience designing, engineering, integrating and operating Small Unmanned Aircraft and Unmanned Ground Systems (sUAS). He is a Certified sUAS Media Master Instructor and holds sUAS certifications from Unmanned Vehicle University.

Jeff Foster is a published author and an Adobe Community Professional who has been speaking and training at the NAB Show Post|Production World conference for several years. He has over 25 years experience in the film, video animation and design industry, and is a staff writer for the ProVideo Coalition, for which he is constantly reviewing the latest UAVs and drones.

Lisa Ellman is a Counsel at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, where she serves as co-chair of the firm’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Practice Group. Ellman previously held senior positions in three White House agencies under President Obama: the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Office of Management and Budget/Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), and the Office of Presidential Personnel (PPO).

Dean Griffith is an attorney in the Regulations Division of the Federal Aviation Administration Office of Chief Counsel, where he primarily works on unmanned aircraft systems integration matters. Before joining the FAA, Dean clerked for the Honorable Bruce E. Kasold, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

The 2015 NAB Show will feature a new Aerial Robotics and Drone Pavilion, presented by Drone Media Group in partnership with NAB Show. Located in the South Upper Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Pavilion will feature dozens of aerial robotics companies, a flying cage, a demonstration area with seating and daily sessions.
