Peak 3 Technical Services First Responder agencies live training situations
Fairbanks, AK – Peak 3 Technical Services of Anchorage, Alaska is proud to have provided support to the Pan-Pacific Unmanned Aircraft Test Range Complex and University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) on Friday, July 11. Peak 3 was an integral part of the extensive mission planning, concept of operations development, and acted as Pilot in Command (PIC) for training missions that included the Alaska State Troopers, the Fairbanks Police Department, and the Fairbanks Fire Department at the Fairbanks Regional Fire Training Center.
The Aeryon Scout, a mini-quadcopter equipped with cameras and sensors, was used to support multiple public safety exercises. The mission objectives were to demonstrate safe operations of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) within Class D airspace while also showing First Responder agencies how the vehicles might benefit public safety using a variety of training scenarios. The sUAS flew to support the coordination and communication efforts for four tightly scheduled training activities including a mock Police Standoff, State Trooper accident scene forensics, and fire demonstrations. The sUAS successfully completed thermal analysis and building entry over-watch with the Fire Department. Visitors from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were present to observe the value of sUAS support in public safety situations as well as effective communications with air traffic control. Peak 3’s Brian Prange, acted as the PIC for the day’s event. Marty Rogers, Director of the University of Alaska Unmanned Aircraft Program stated: “We would not have been able to execute this mission without the support of Peak3. Through the growth of our UAS Science and Research program and the newly added Test Site program, Peak3 staff have consistently provided outstanding support to the University of Alaska unmanned aircraft program. We are pleased to call them partners in this effort which is so important to the State of Alaska and to the unmanned aircraft industry as a whole.”
The Scout was also used back in May when Peak 3’s President, Jen Haney, served as PIC for a similar training exercise with PPUTRC, testing the capability to identify caribou and muskoxen at the Robert G. White Large Animal Research Station. It was the first historic test flight of unmanned aircraft at the nation’s six test ranges.
