PENDLETON – Blue Mountain Community College is now accepting registrations for a new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Systems course to teach those interested in learning how to operate UAVs in numerous occupational fields in the region.

The new course provides a basic understanding and application of UAVs design, configuration and operation. By the course’s conclusion, students will demonstrate operational competency in using micros and full-scale UAVs.

The Eastern Oregon Regional Airport in Pendleton is expected to receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to become a test site for UAVs this summer. Pendleton, Tillamook and Warm Springs were all given approval by the FAA at the start of 2014 as part of the Pan-Pacific UAS Test Range Complex. UAVs are expected to have a use in several operational fields in eastern Oregon, including agriculture, land surveying, real estate, emergency management, land management, air quality surveying and wildlife management.

The UAV Systems course will run the weekends of July 19-20, July 26-27, and Aug. 2-3 at the Pendleton campus. Those interested may register online for course number 009.030-01 at www.bluecc.edu. For more information, call the Office of Instruction at 541-278-5930.
