LOS ANGELES – Reports that Los Angeles Kings fans knocked an LAPD drone out of the sky while celebrating outside the Staples Center Friday night are apparently in error.

As Forbes.com reported,  the Los Angeles Police Department acquired two “Draganflyer X6 UAVs, a system with six props mounted to three arms on a black frame.  The drone in the video is clearly a white quadcopter, in fact the drone (in the video) is white with stripes, meaning it is likely a DJI Phantom.”

The Draganflyer’s were given to the LAPD by the Seattle Police Department after residents there expressed concerns over privacy and the potential for misuse. The drones were purchased with Homeland Security grant money.

In fact, the LAPD hasn’t even decided if it is going to use the donated drones yet and they are being held by Homeland Security.
