NEW MAVinci SIRIUS NIR camera option for agricultural applications
With our camera kit it is possible to take aerial images automatically during the flight. Depending on the flight altitude, the resolution of the pictures per pixel (Ground Sample Distance -GSD) varies between 1.5 and 20 cm. During the flight, the pictures are stored on board. After the flight, they can be read out and processed.
Any UAV payload should be as small and light as possible but deliver high-quality data at the same time. For these reasons, we integrated the Panasonic GX1 camera into our UAS. It is small and lightweight and has a 16 MP Live MOS sensor. The sensor‘s area is only 30–40% smaller than APS-C sensors used in most other DSLRs, and about 9 times larger than the 1/2.5“ sensors typically used in compact digital cameras.
Together with the Panasonic GX1 camera we use a Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 lens. The focal length of the lens is fixed to increase the quality of the post-processing results. The calibration of the camera with the lens is optional.
We offer the Panasonic GX1 in two different versions: For Acquisition of images in visible or near infrared range.
The NIR camera version provides relative NDVI-indices from the minium to maximum value in the image. It is a modified version of the visible range GX1 camera system to achieve the same high resolution images and high accuracy results. The single images can be processed to high accuracy orthophotos and 3D models.
The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is a graphical indicator for analysis of vegetation conditions and photosynthetic capacity.

Because the SIRIUS and SIRIUS pro-UAS provide the whole toolchain from flight planning to the final result, the workflow is straight forward and the system is very easy to use: After flying the UAS and acquiring the images they are processed to an orthophoto. Then MAVinci Desktop performs the index calculation of the NDVI and one can export the final NDVI image.
Get the full flexibility: The user can easily switch between the NIR and visible camera system.
