FIA’s strategic vision for the future development of the Airshow site has taken a major step forward as organisers, Farnborough International Ltd (FIL) today signed a multi-show deal with GKN Aerospace for the construction of a permanent purpose-built structure on the Airshow site.  GKN Aerospace’s commitment is not only a demonstration of their support for the show but also will allow FIL to make further inroads in to developing an infrastructure that’s fit for purpose in the coming years.

Marcus Bryson, CEO GKN Aerospace and Land Systems explained: “We first exhibited at the Farnborough International Airshow in 2000 with a chalet unit and stand and, as our company has grown over the last decade and a half, we have increased our footprint at the show. Experience over the years has shown us that FIA offers us a valuable and effective opportunity to open, progress and conclude business discussions with companies and organisations from across the global aerospace community. Today we are one of the world’s leading independent tier one suppliers and a technology leader, this ten year permanent structure agreement reflects both our growth and standing in the global industry and our commitment to the UK aerospace industry by supporting the world’s largest international airshow.”

The strategic vision for FIA has been in development since 2009 with the objective to continue the long term growth and prosperity of the FIA brand, allowing it to champion the UK Aerospace Industry and promote international trade, and contribute to the regional and national economies. The vision has included creating dedicated areas for major exhibitors, permanent facilities and other infrastructure investments.

The first phase of the site development is now complete with the construction of the permanent Row-A Chalet structures for which long-term exhibitor, Martin-Baker have also signed a five show agreement for one of the chalet units. A number of similar projects are also in the pipeline.

Commenting about the agreements, FIL Chief Executive, Shaun Ormrod, said, “Commitments from these major players in the global aerospace industry is a real endorsement to what we’re trying to achieve here for the Farnborough International Airshow site. It has given us the confidence to pursue the next phase of our development programme which will see the creation of a world-class venue for the Farnborough International Airshow.’
