The third checkpoint of the Flying Drones contest saw 51 teams and 21 individuals qualifying for the final qualification phase and the chance to compete for the 1 million ruble prize on offer.

According to contest rules, all contestants had to provide a revised draft technical map and a video presentation showing how their drone is capable of meeting contest requirements, such as automatic takeoff and landing, by midnight May 31 (May 31 at 24:00). Overall, 72 participants qualified for the next (final) qualification phase.

”Unfortunately, many teams didn’t make it because of problems related to the delivery of components for drone creation. However, the level of the teams which successfully passed the third qualification stage is generally higher than expected. The drones fly very well, not only the modified Ar. Drone 2.0, which initially included the necessary basic components, but homemade devices also. We look forward to an exciting battle on August 24-25″, says Alexey Dobrovolsky, Director of Software Development at CROC.

The next (final) qualification stage will be on July 21. To pass this phase and qualify for the final “battle”, contestants must provide a finalized technical map and a video presentation to prove that their drone can complete the key contest tasks. Contestants from Moscow and the Moscow region must pass a test task at CROC’s test site instead of making a video presentation (the time and date of tests is still to be announced).
