RPAS Operations Survey

Within the context of its Global Access Initiative, UVS International is organizing this survey on currently ongoing civil Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) operations. The intent of this survey is to:
a) Reach out to the current civil RPAS operators’ community (operators: persons, organizations or enterprises engaged in or offering to engage in an aircraft operation);
b) Permit the current civil RPAS operators’ community to identify itself;
c) Identify the types of the civil RPAS currently being used;
d) Identify the types of missions currently being flown;
e) Evaluate the quantity of currently on-going and anticipated civil RPAS operations;
f)   Identify the wishes of the civil RPAS operators’ community in the field of regulatory and operational developments relative to their anticipated future activities, and make it possible for this community to make its voice heard;
g) Supply the relevant conclusions to the organization’s involved with preparing the future RPAS regulatory framework.
The statistical survey conclusions, fused with the results of the 2012 survey on the same topic, will be
presented at RPAS CivOps 2013, the 2ndEuropean RPAS Operators’ conference, which will take place at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium on 9-11 December 2013 (see www.rpas-civops.org). The conclusions will also be made available to:
– International Civil Aviation Authority Organization (ICAO) UAS Study Group;
– European Commission’s European RPAS Steering Group (ERSG);
– European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA);
– EUROCONTROL;
– Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS);
– SESAR Joint Undertaking;
– EUROCAE WG73 on UAS;
– EUROCAE WG93 on Light RPAS;
– ULTRA Consortium;
– All contributing companies & persons.
The survey conclusions will be published in the Library on www.uvs-info.com.
National regulatory authorities from all countries can request to receive the conclusions by formulating a request by email topvb@uvs-info.com
The contact details of the company representatives and the completed survey forms supplied by the participants in this survey will not be published, nor transmitted to any other company or organization for any purpose whatsoever.

Instructor for LTA (Lighter Than Air) ISR systems deployment teams for an OSD, U.S. Special Operations Command, Special Surveillance Project. Built and operated commercial RPA prior to 2007 FAA policy clarification. On the airspace integration side, he serves as director of special programs for the RCAPA (Remote Control Aerial Photography Association).
