Unmanned aircraft manufacturer announces layoffs

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) — Stark Aerospace has laid off some workers at its facility in Columbus.

Company officials tell WTVA.com the cuts took effect six weeks ago.

The number of workers affected is not being released.

Officials say a variety of factors played a part in the decision, including sequestration and increased health care costs.

The company manufacturers unmanned aircraft for military purposes.

Stark Flight Sciences, a subsidiary of Stark Aerospace, is not affected by the layoffs.
