Gleason issues statement of support for Inyokern UAS bid

As Inyokern Airport and the Cal Unmanned Aircraft Systems team continue on deadlines in an effort obtain a designation as one of six unmanned aircraft systems test and research sites, Kern County’s first district supervisor threw his support behind the project team.
“I wish to express my unequivocal support for the Inyokern Airport District efforts to obtain designation as one of the National Test Sites for development and testing of unmanned air systems being selected by the Federal Aviation Administration,”
Mick Gleason, the supervisor, said in a statement issued from his office. Gleason highlighted the airport’s remote location — adjacent to a wide swath of restricted airspace overseen by China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station — as an advantage, one required for the FAA-designated test sites.
