RPAS CivOps – The European Civil RPAS Operator’s Forum

RPAS CivOps conference  will take place at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium on 4 & 5 December 2012.

This conference, organized under the auspices of UVS International, in cooperation with the Royal Military Academy, is being positioned as the European Civil RPAS Operators’ Forum, and endeavors to bring the international civil RPAS operators’ community together.

In this context, “operator” should be understood as: A person, organization or enterprise engaged in or offering to engage in an RPAS operation.

 

RPAS CivOps features 34 speakers from 12 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom), which will give presentations relative to civil RPAS operations (governmental, commercial, research).

 

In 9 plenary sessions (no parallel tracks) over two days, the following topics will be addressed:

Session 1:   European Commission & European Agencies: Policy & regulatory matters + European RPAS Roadmap + European regulatory harmonization;

Session 2:   Operations: Producing electricity; Economic viability assessment; Nano RPAS operations;

Session 3:   Operations: Police & fire brigades; Fighting forest fires; Rapid response work; Security-related aerial surveillance, search & rescue, industrial site inspection, geomatic applications, pipeline inspection, cinema industry; Aerial surveillance & photogrammetry;

Session 4:   Operations: Cinema industry; Archeology & research; Bird herding; Magnetic mapping; Security & geographical survey;

Session 5:   Operations: Inspection of hydro-electric dams; Oil, gas & energy industry; Environmental inspection;

Session 6:   Regulatory Authorities: Multi-national (JARUS) & 3 national regulatory status reports (Belgium, Norway, UK);

Session 7:   Standards & The role of a Qualified Entity;

Session 8:   Governmental & Corporate Operators + Civil/Military Mutualisation;

Session 9:   Future Operations: Disaster relief management; Coastal zone management; Search & Rescue; Nature reserve monitoring.

The organization of the RPAS CivOps conference has been coordinated with: European Commission DG Enterprise & Industry, European Commission DG Mobility & Transport, European RPAS Steering Group, European Aviation Safety Agency, EUROCONTROL, JARUS, SESAR Joint Undertaking, ULTRA Consortium, EUROCAE Working Group 73 on UAS, EUROCAE Working Group 93 on Light RPAS.

__________________________________ Conference Objectives __________________________________

– Increase awareness with the European Commission (EC) and its agencies relative to currently on-going civil RPAS operations (commercial & non-commercial; non-governmental & governmental);

– Inform the aerial specialized operations community (using manned aircraft) on the business potential offered by RPAS;

– Give a selected number of current civil RPAS operators the possibility to state their requirements (re: regulatory matters & remotely piloted aircraft & sensors) to the EC;

– Contribute to identifying the civil RPAS operator’s community to itself;

– Highlight the diversity of current & potential civil RPAS applications and present business case examples;

– Disseminate information on the currently on-going civil RPAS-related regulatory activities in Europe;

– Disseminate information on recently concluded studies pertaining to civil RPAS applications;

– Permit potential customers of RPAS flight services to express their requirements;

– Create a forum for current and future civil RPAS operators, RPAS manufacturers and the representatives of the organizations that are involved in preparing the future for civil RPAS operations to interact;

– Present novel civil RPAS applications;

– Discuss critical issues such as command & control frequencies (in various environments);

– Highlight current technology & regulatory gaps.
