Technology helps our rarest dolphin
A Palmerston North business has provided the hardware at the centre of research into the world’s rarest dolphin.
Skycam UAV, based in Sutton Place, has just sold one of its unmanned aerial vehicles commonly known as drones or UAVs to AUT University in Auckland.
The university plans to use the UAV to monitor animal species in New Zealand, including the Maui dolphin population.
The UAV’s cameras could take video or still images.
Skycam had sold its product to the University of Queensland, but director Rene Redmond said he was especially excited about getting a New Zealand university on board.
