The Gadsden Police Department has had unmanned aerial vehicles since 2010, Gadsden Police Chief John Crane said.

The department is on a list recently released by the Federal Aviation Administration after a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit was filed. The information identifies the agencies certified through the FAA to fly drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. However, it does not specify the capabilities each has.

Gadsden’s UAVs have surveillance capability but no offensive capabilities, Crane said.
