Parrot ARdrone flying GOPRO HD

Parrot ARdrone

Perhaps the much touted Parrot ARdrone might become the little drone that can. An enthusiast in France has managed to lift the very popular GOPro HD camera with his ARdrone.

The ipad/iphone controlled quadrocopter hit the streets this month. An Android version is said to be on the cards. The drone uses a downward looking camera and ultrasonic sensors to help with stabilization.

Modular design means that repair of most parts is simply a matter of swapping modules, the manufacturers even have videos showing you how.

At the moment the only issues seem to be centred around firmware and software updates with some users reporting issues after an update from Parrot earlier this week. Perhaps that is to be expected with gadgets these days. Now that we have seen the Parrot lifting a useful load outdoors to boot, it looks more serious. It is a contender for the cheapest and most straightforward route into unmanned aviation. It has features only dreamt of a few short years ago.
